Tragedy struck on Friday at Olowogbade Street, idanre town in Idanre Local government of Ondo State as a newly roofed building of one of the traditional chiefs in Idanre land (name withheld) was razed by fire, destroying property worth millions of Naira.
The incident occurred in less than 48 hours that Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa handed over newly acquired fire trucks to the Ondo State Fire Service.
It was gathered that the inferno was caused by a faulty wire connection by a tenant in the house who was not at home when the incident occurred.
Speaking with Newsmen, the landlord who was overwhelmed with grief expressed sadness over the incident.
Electronic appliances were seen already burnt beyond repair while the ceiling materials of the room said to have been made of inflammable materials were said to have aided the fire.
A victim of the fire outbreak and young nursing mother who was weeping profusely after the fire had been put off said she had lost virtually all she had, except for the wrapper she escaped with.
According to her, she was left with nothing and did not know where to start from, being the wife of a poor peasant husband and nursing a baby.
A neighbour who spoke with Idanre Media Services threw the blame on the doorstep of the tenant who, she alleged, had wrongly tapped electricity from a building close by which electric surge triggered to cause the fire.
Residents however said that if there was a fire station in Idanre, the damage would not have been that much.
They called on the Ondo State Government to establish a fire station in Idanre Local government.
Two years ago, a petrol tanker fell in Opa area of Idanre and led to the loss of properties worth millions of Naira while some buildings and vehicles were burnt.
