The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, on Friday alerted Troops to do everything possible to resist Criminals trying to relocate to the southwest region of Nigeria.
Addressing the troops of the 32 Artillery Brigade in Akure, the Ondo State capital, Lieutenant General Oluyede said having been defeated in the Northern parts of Nigeria, some of the criminals have decided to change location to the southwest, hence the need for the soldiers in collaboration with other security agencies nip it in the bud.
Lieutenant General Oluyede also charged the soldiers to ensure that criminals were not allowed to invade the southwest region as they were being defeated in the northern parts of the country.
He said “As we are pursuing the criminals from the north, we have realized that some of them are coming down to the southwest. What does that mean? What does that tell you? That work is coming.
“It is better you nip it in the bud and you allow it to grow. Once it grows, it becomes a monster. We don’t want another northeast. Neither do we want another northwest. So you must brace up about that challenge.”
He urged officers and soldiers to work in synergy with sister services, other security agencies, and the intelligence community to eliminate all security threats within the Brigade’s area of responsibility.
He also admonished the troops to eschew all forms of unprofessional conduct while carrying out their constitutional duties.
General Oluyede commended the troops for their efforts and encouraged them to be more proactive and deliberate in their operations.
He emphasised the need for tenacity in securing Nigeria and ensuring that the resources allocated for security are justified.
He further observed that achieving lasting peace would facilitate socio-economic development and prosperity across the country.
