The Ondo state government has attributed its inability to pay the inmates of Ago Ireti their seven-month outstanding allowance to inter-ministry procedures, assuring that the inmates will be paid before the week runs out.
The Special Adviser to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa on Women Affairs, Dr Seun Osamaye gave the hint in an interview with Roving Reporters on Monday while reacting to the protest of Ago Ireti Inmates.
Roving Reporters had reported that the Inmates of Ago Ireti Settlement in Akure, had cried out over continued neglect and government abandonment in the past months.
The vulnerable people of the facility are living in deplorable conditions, made worse by the state government’s failure to pay seven months of their outstanding stipends.
Reacting, Dr Osamaye however pointed out that governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa had since approved payment of the inmates stipends.
She however said her ministry and the Secretary to the State Government, Dr Taiwo Fasoranti had taken upon themselves to ensure that the inmates got their outstanding allowance paid.
Osamaye said, “The SSG had called me sometimes that we should pay an on the spot assessment visit to Ago Ireti settlement.
“So we are planning to be there this week. So that we can really assess what is happening there and the way forward.
“The governor has approved their allowance. In fact, their allowance has been increased but due to inter-ministry procedures and some bureaucracy, the money has not been paid.
“But I can assure you that the state government through the office of the SSG is working seriously to ensure that they all get paid this week.”
