AKURE — In a bid to end the ongoing industrial action crippling court activities across Ondo State, the Hon. Chief Judge, Justice Olusegun Odusola, has called for dialogue and mutual understanding between the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) and the State Government.
Justice Odusola made the appeal during a crucial meeting held on Thursday, 19th June 2025, with officials of the Ondo State Branch of JUSUN at the High Court premises in Akure. He was joined by fellow Judges and the Chief Registrar, Ayodeji Akinsanya.
The Chief Judge emphasized the indispensable role of the judiciary in maintaining law, order, and democratic stability, urging that its constitutional duties must not be compromised.
“We understand the grievances and concerns raised, but we must also reflect on the broader impact of this strike on justice delivery and the public. Constructive dialogue remains our best path forward,” Justice Odusola said.
While JUSUN officials restated their demands for the full implementation of the 2015 Memorandum of Understanding, Justice Odusola encouraged the union to engage with the government in pursuit of a peaceful and timely resolution.
He also appealed to the general public for continued patience and understanding, expressing hope that normal court activities would soon resume.
The judiciary in Ondo State has been largely paralyzed in recent weeks due to the strike, which is part of a broader call by JUSUN for financial autonomy and improved working conditions.
