Aregbesola Declares Political War, says “Only Unity Can Dethrone APC”

Former Osun State Governor and interim National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Rauf Aregbesola, has warned that a barrage of propaganda from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is imminent as Nigeria heads toward the 2027 general elections.

Speaking during a high-level stakeholders’ meeting of the ADC in Akure, Ondo State, Aregbesola urged opposition members to set aside personal ambitions and form a united front to challenge what he described as the APC’s “misrule and manipulation.”

“Let us work together and put personal interests aside,” Aregbesola declared. “Unity is paramount. We have time before the elections, but the task is enormous. Without unity, we cannot win.”

He revealed that the ADC had been officially adopted as the coalition platform for opposition forces, bringing together political heavyweights such as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi of the Labour Party.

The meeting aimed to clarify internal developments within the coalition and debunk alleged misinformation surrounding recent court disputes involving the ADC.

Also speaking at the event, Gbenga Edema, the 2024 governorship candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Ondo State, affirmed that the party was on track.

“Two weeks ago, the coalition chose ADC as its official platform,” Edema noted. “The court cases being hyped by our opponents are distractions—meant to derail our progress.”

Former APC chieftain and political strategist Akin Akinbobola warned that Nigeria was “on the brink,” citing rising hunger, insecurity, and infrastructure decay.

“This coalition is Nigeria’s last chance to escape collapse,” he said. “It’s not just politics—it’s about survival. Our leader has shown the way. More defections are on the way.”

Akinbobola, who once served as a Senior Special Assistant to ex-Governor Olusegun Mimiko, compared the ADC-led movement to a political tsunami.

“At a recent strategic meeting, over 10 political parties were represented. The wave is swelling, and it’s going to sweep across the state and beyond. While it may be difficult to manage such a large coalition, there is room for everyone.”

The gathering signals growing momentum for the ADC-led alliance as Nigeria inches closer to what may be a high-stakes, multi-party showdown in 2027.
