The Nigerian Consumer Credit Corporation (CREDICORP), in partnership with Gamma Mobility and Accion Microfinance Bank, has launched the Ondo State edition of its flagship Queen Rider programme, empowering women with fully financed, locally assembled tricycles.

Held in Akure on Tuesday, the event marked another milestone in the nationwide drive to improve women’s access to income-generating assets through affordable consumer credit.

At least 100 women in Ondo State are expected to benefit from this round of the initiative, which forms part of the S.C.A.L.E. scheme—Securing Consumer Access for Local Enterprises.

The tricycles, assembled by Nigeria’s leading three-wheeler manufacturer Simba TVS, underscore the programme’s commitment to supporting local production and job creation.

With a daily output capacity exceeding 1,170 vehicles, the company plays a key role in boosting the nation’s industrial growth.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mrs. Olanike Kolawole, Executive Director of Operations at CREDICORP, described the Queen Rider programme as a transformative model designed to move women “from survival to stability through credit.”

“These vehicles symbolize more than transportation—they represent access, ownership, and control over one’s financial future,” Kolawole said. “They’re made in Nigeria, financed in Nigeria, and changing lives across Nigeria.”

She revealed that the initiative aims to empower 3,700 women nationwide, with at least 100 beneficiaries in each state and the Federal Capital Territory.

By enabling women to own commercial tricycles, the programme unlocks participation in transport and other high-yield sectors traditionally closed off to women due to credit barriers.

The programme also features daily repayment plans spread over two years, after which the beneficiaries gain full ownership of the vehicles.

According to Mr. Samuel Ezire of Gamma Mobility, this flexible structure was designed to ease financial burden while encouraging accountability.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Adewole Olabanke thanked CREDICORP and its partners, pledging to maintain the tricycles and keep up with repayment schedules.

“This opportunity relieves us of our financial burdens and gives us a sustainable path to income generation,” she said.

The Akure rollout attracted representatives from both public and private sectors, reflecting strong synergy between CREDICORP’s inclusive vision and the Ondo State Government’s economic empowerment agenda.

The Queen Rider initiative is part of CREDICORP’s broader goal to provide consumer credit to at least half of Nigeria’s working population by 2030. Other flagship programmes include YouthCRED, which targets youth and NYSC members, and C.A.L.M., aimed at clean energy adoption through credit-based financing.

Backed by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), CREDICORP continues to work closely with financial institutions and indigenous manufacturers to deliver scalable, inclusive financial solutions that drive economic transformation across the country.
