CP Lawal Visits Akungba Varsity, Promises Boost in Campus Security

Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko (AAUA), is set to benefit from an expanded school security initiative by the Nigeria Police Force, following a familiarisation visit to the campus by the new Commissioner of Police for Ondo State, CP Adebowale Lawal.

During the visit on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Olugbenga Ige, reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to supporting the police and other security agencies in maintaining a safe learning environment.

“As a responsible Management, we place premium on the security of our students and staff,” Prof. Ige said. “We will continue to provide all necessary support to the police and go the extra mile to rid our university community of criminal elements.”

The Vice Chancellor appealed to the Police Commissioner to deploy more personnel to the University and the host community, Akungba, while commending the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Akungba for consistent efforts in ensuring peace and stability.

CP Lawal, who led a delegation of senior police officers, including his deputy, area commanders, and DPOs, lauded the University’s proactive security measures. He revealed that the Police Command plans to extend its School Protection Unit, initially established for secondary schools, to include tertiary institutions like AAUA.

“We are also working to revive the Student-Police Relations Committee,” he announced. “This platform will foster dialogue, idea-sharing, and early resolution of issues that may arise on campus.”

The Commissioner further assured the university community of heightened security, with increased deployment of both uniformed and plain-clothed officers to strengthen surveillance and safety in and around the campus.
