Ondo SDP sacks State Secretary over ‘Grave Misconduct’

Akure, Ondo State – The Ondo State Chapter of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has relieved its State Secretary, Comrade Jimmy Akinyan, of his position with immediate effect over allegations of indiscipline, financial impropriety, and anti-party activities.

The decision was reached on Monday at a stakeholders’ meeting of the party in Akure, where leaders resolved to enforce strict internal discipline and reposition the SDP as a credible opposition ahead of future elections.

According to the communiqué issued after the meeting, the party reviewed the conduct of Mr. Akinyan and found him culpable of “acts of sabotage during elections, insubordination, and financial misconduct.”

Speaking on behalf of the party, the State Chairman, Barr. Gbenga Akinbuli, said the action was necessary to preserve the integrity of the SDP.

“The findings against the former Secretary were grave and could not be ignored. His conduct represented a direct violation of our collective trust.

In the wisdom of stakeholders, such behavior cannot coexist with the principles of loyalty and ideological conviction which the SDP stands for,” Akinbuli declared.

To further probe the allegations, a five-man disciplinary committee chaired by the State Legal Adviser has been constituted to determine Mr. Akinyan’s continued membership of the party.

Meanwhile, the party has appointed Mr. Femi Ikoyi as the new State Secretary. Stakeholders expressed confidence in his loyalty and competence to strengthen the party’s structure.

“This is not just a disciplinary measure, but the beginning of a broader effort to purge the SDP of sabotage and infiltration,” Akinbuli told reporters.

“We are determined to build a party of conviction and loyalty, one that offers Nigerians a true alternative rooted in service to the people.”

The development has already sparked mixed reactions within the political space, with some describing the move as a bold step towards restoring discipline, while others see it as a potential trigger for internal crisis.
