Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa on Saturday, August 30, 2025, in Akungba-Akoko, Akoko South West Local Government Area of Ondo State, issued a stern directive to roadside traders to vacate the Akungba–Ikare Road for safety reasons.

The governor stated this while presenting the Staff of Office to the new Alale of Akungba Akoko.

Aiyedatiwa said the ongoing dualisation of the busy road was aimed at boosting commerce and easing traffic, but lamented that roadside trading continued to pose grave dangers to motorists and residents.

He ordered all traders to relocate to the Atiba Market, warning that government would no longer condone activities that expose people to needless accidents.

“Akungba has lost too many lives to avoidable road accidents caused by roadside trading. That must end. Atiba Market is ready, and compliance is mandatory,” Aiyedatiwa declared.

Turning to security, the governor reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to strengthen the Amotekun Corps and other security agencies for improved surveillance and crime prevention in Akoko and across the state.

He stressed that security remained the foundation for sustainable development and warned that his government would not tolerate lawlessness.

Chairman of Akoko South West Local Government, Hon. Ayo Ajana, backed the relocation order, describing it as a necessary sacrifice for public safety and a cleaner environment.

He also hailed the governor’s commitment to security and infrastructure, including the Akungba–Ikare dual carriageway.

The new Alale of Akungba, Oba Isiaka Oseni Adu, pledged his support for peace and security initiatives, assuring that his reign would prioritize the safety and unity of his people.
