All Roads Lead to AAUA as Prof. Mekusi Delivers 48th Inaugural Lecture

Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), will on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, host its 48th Inaugural Lecture to be delivered by Professor of African Literature, Busuyi Mekusi.

The lecture, titled “The Danger of Forgetting: Afromorphs, Literature and Memory,” is scheduled to take place at the University Multipurpose Hall by 2:00 p.m., under the chairmanship of the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Olugbenga Ige.

According to a statement signed by the Chairman of the University Ceremonies Committee and Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Adebisi Daramola, all arrangements have been concluded to ensure a seamless event.

He urged members of the University community, friends, and well-wishers of the lecturer to be seated by 1:30 p.m.

Prof. Mekusi, who obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in English from Ondo State University, Ado-Ekiti, in 1998, later bagged a Master’s Degree from the University of Ibadan in 2003 and a PhD in Literature from the University of Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, in 2010.

He began his academic career at AAUA in 1999 as a Graduate Assistant in the Department of English Studies and rose through the ranks to become a Professor in 2019.

Over the years, he has held various academic and administrative positions and currently serves as Director of the University’s Teaching and Leadership Centre.

A former Chairperson of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), AAUA chapter (2010–2015), Prof. Mekusi has also served as Congregation Representative on the Governing Council, University Orator, Governing Council Member of the Federal College of Education, Eha-Amufu, and Visiting Lecturer to several institutions.

With more than 28 scholarly articles published in reputable journals and co-authored books to his credit, Prof. Mekusi is also widely recognised for his contributions beyond academia.

He is an active voice on local and national media, a community leader, and a regular participant in national and international conferences.

He has presented papers across Africa, Europe, America, and Nigeria, and belongs to professional bodies such as the Nigerian English Studies Association, West African Languages Association, CODESRIA, and the Development Policy Management Forum.
