Former Governor of Ondo State, Dr Olusegun Mimiko, has denied a report circulating in a national daily which claimed he had been appointed to lead the consultation group for an alleged campaign of former President Goodluck Jonathan in the South-West.
The report, which did not name its source, failed to state who announced the supposed appointment, when and where it was made, or under what circumstances. It also admitted it had not sought Mimiko’s comment before publication.
In a swift reaction, Mimiko, speaking through his former Chief Press Secretary, Eni Akinsola, described the publication as “a concocted rumour dressed up as news.”
“The Mimiko I know respects former President Jonathan, but he has neither been contacted nor appointed for any campaign that remains, at best, a subject of fanciful speculation. He is certainly not job-hunting,” Akinsola said.
He warned that as politics heats up ahead of the coming elections, such fabrications about political figures like Mimiko, popularly known as Iroko, are likely to become more frequent.
