— Vows legal action against orchestrated smear campaign
The Ondo State Government has declared zero tolerance for what it described as a “disturbing wave of blackmail, cyberbullying, and coordinated misinformation” targeted at Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa and senior government officials.
In a strongly worded statement issued on Saturday, the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mr. Idowu Ajanaku, said a group of individuals—including two legal practitioners—had embarked on a smear campaign after their attempts to extract political and financial favours from the state government failed.
“These individuals demanded a staggering ₦200 million, claiming it was for ‘activism in support of the governor.’ When their fraudulent request was turned down, they launched a barrage of falsehoods and blackmail online,” Ajanaku revealed.
He described the group as unregistered, fraudulent, and driven by greed rather than patriotism, adding that their actions were aimed at discrediting and destabilising the current administration.
“Governor Aiyedatiwa welcomes constructive criticism,” Ajanaku stated, “but will not tolerate blackmailers masquerading as activists. The government will use every lawful means to ensure such individuals face justice.”
The commissioner reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and people-centered governance, warning that any further attacks on public officials will attract swift legal and public consequences.
“Enough is enough,” Ajanaku declared. “Ondo State belongs to all of us, and we will not stand by while a few desperate individuals attempt to destroy its image for selfish gain.”
