••• Hundreds of Transport Workers Join APC Over Federal Road Projects

Akure – The National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Ondo State has declared that federal roads constructed under President Bola Tinubu, particularly those using concrete instead of asphalt, are built to last for a century.

Hundreds of NURTW members from all 18 local government areas of the state officially dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to join the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Tuesday.

The defectors, led by Comrades Ojo Adewole, Gbenga Ijalade, Mukaila Alegboleye, Elder Abimbola Jimoh, and others, were received by APC State Chairman, Engr. Ade Adetimehin, in a carnival-like reception at the party’s Akure Secretariat.

Speaking on behalf of the defectors, Comrade Adewole praised the massive federal road projects in the state.

“We are road transport workers. We know the condition of all our roads before President Tinubu came in. Our pain has now become joy. We commend the President for continuing the Ado–Ikare–Akure road construction which began under former President Buhari. Very soon, this road will be completed,” he said.

He further applauded the dualisation of the Benin–Owo–Akure–Ilesha–Ibadan road and the Ore–Ondo road project.

“The joy of this fantastic job is that the President is not using asphalt but concrete, which we know will last for 100 years,” Adewole added.

The NURTW leader described the scale of federal road works in Ondo as unprecedented.

“This is the first of its kind in our Sunshine State. We have never had a President working on more than four federal roads at the same time. The 700km Lagos–Calabar Coastal Road, which Ondo will benefit from, is another laudable project.”

Adewole also commended the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, for his inclusive and impactful approach to national development.

Receiving the defectors, APC State Chairman Engr. Adetimehin assured them that they would not regret joining the ruling party.

He urged them to support President Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope Agenda” aimed at delivering relief to ordinary Nigerians, adding that Ondo State was now fully consolidated as a strong APC territory.
