More facts have emerged over the violent attack on Fuji legend, Abbas Akande Obesere, during a burial ceremony at the Government Field, Okitipupa, revealing how the incident was allegedly orchestrated and executed by a notorious thug, Michael Abbey, popularly known as “Emir”.
Investigations by the Ondo State Police Command revealed that the attack was not a spontaneous outbreak of violence but a coordinated assault carried out by Emir and his gang while Obesere was entertaining guests at the event on 21st November, 2025.
Witnesses disclosed that the suspects forcefully invaded the performer’s space, disrupting the ceremony and unleashing violence on the artiste in full view of mourners.
In the process, Obesere was dispossessed of a bag containing ₦4 million, along with his gold chain, mobile phone and wristwatch.
The situation deteriorated when his manager, who attempted to shield him, was stabbed on the hand with a broken bottle, leaving him injured.
Following credible intelligence and swift police action, two prime suspects — Michael Abbey (Emir) and Oniye Oke — were apprehended. Both reportedly confessed to their involvement, while the police recovered ₦479,100 from the stolen proceeds.
Other members of the gang are currently on the run, with intensified operations ongoing to arrest them and retrieve remaining stolen items.
The Commissioner of Police has condemned the attack, describing it as a disturbing act of thuggery and lawlessness, and assured residents that all those linked to the crime will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
The Ondo State Police Command reiterated its resolve to ensure the safety of residents and maintain peace, particularly as the festive season approaches, warning that violence and hooliganism will not be tolerated in the state.
