Panic as Truck Crushes One, Second Crash Follows in Ondo

by Roving

There was confusion at the NEPA Roundabout in Akure, Ondo State capital, on Monday morning after a timber-laden truck crushed a road user to death in a fatal crash involving a motorcycle.

The accident, which occurred during the early rush hour, threw commuters into panic, forcing motorists to scamper for safety as passersby gathered around the scene.

A second accident reportedly occurred at the same spot shortly after, but no casualty was recorded.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command, Olayinka Ayanlade, said only one person died contrary to widespread claims of two fatalities.

Residents blamed the accidents on the absence of traffic wardens at the roundabout, noting that ongoing construction work has worsened gridlock and made the area prone to crashes.

They called on authorities to urgently deploy traffic personnel to forestall further tragedies.

Further details are expected as authorities continue investigations.
