••• Release Him After 24 Hours
Chairman of Okitipupa Local Government Area, Ondo State, Andrew Ogunsakin, has been released from police custody after spending 24 hours at the Force Headquarters Monitoring Unit, Abuja.
SaharaReporters learnt that Ogunsakin was detained on Tuesday after honouring an invitation from the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, following a petition accusing him of criminal trespass and threat to life.
The petition, filed by Dr. Anthony Aduro, Chief Executive Officer of Aduro Farms, alleged that the council chairman unlawfully invaded and encroached on his property in Okitipupa.
Through his lawyer, Barrister Collins of Brikani Associates, Aduro urged the police to investigate what he described as “coordinated trespass and intimidation.”
The case was handled under reference number CR 3000/IGP/SEC/MU/T6/ABJ/VOL and supervised by CSP Muhammed Abdulkareem of the IGP Monitoring Unit.
Sources told SaharaReporters on Friday that Ogunsakin was interrogated extensively before he was granted bail on Wednesday, December 3, after meeting all conditions.
Before his detention, the council chairman had appealed for a shift in the police interview date, citing a packed official schedule.
In a letter dated October 29, 2025, signed by the Director of Legal Services of Okitipupa LG, Yemi Egbodofo, Ogunsakin requested a new date between late November and early December.
The police, however, proceeded with the invitation, which led to his eventual appearance and detention. The Monitoring Unit acknowledged receipt of his appeal with a handwritten directive instructing CSP Mohammed A. to respond “ASAP.”
The IGP Monitoring Unit has recently intensified investigations into local government activities across the South-West, with Ogunsakin’s case being one of the most notable in the region.
