Ondo Warns Churches, Mosques: Stop Illegal Street-Pole Posters

The Ondo State Signage and Advertisement Agency (OSSAA) has issued a fresh warning to churches, mosques and other religious organisations over the growing use of unauthorised streetlight-pole posters across major cities in the state, insisting that all outdoor advertisements must follow the approved permit process.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa on Signage and Advertisement, Yomi Oyekan praised the moral, spiritual, and humanitarian contributions of churches, mosques, and other faith-based groups, but stressed that all outdoor promotional materials must comply with established regulations.

The agency noted that many religious programmes and outreach events were being advertised on public infrastructure without the required permits—a trend it described as unsafe, disorderly, and unfair to compliant organisations.

“Our intention is not to hinder the work of any religious institution,” the statement read. “We are simply committed to ensuring orderliness, protecting public infrastructure, and maintaining the aesthetic value of our cities.”

OSSAA also referenced the teachings of both the Bible and Qur’an, urging religious organisations to uphold discipline and respect for constituted authority.

The agency encouraged churches, mosques, and other groups to obtain the necessary permits before mounting streetlight-pole adverts or similar outdoor materials, adding that compliance would support a cleaner and better-organised Ondo State.

For enquiries on permit procedures, OSSAA directed stakeholders to its office in Akure or to contact the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Signage and Advertisement, Yomi Oyekan.
