••• ‘I’ll Switch Off the Mic!’ — threatens Adeleke
First Lady Oluremi Tinubu on Sunday cautioned Osun State governor, Ademola Adeleke, over his prolonged singing during the 10th coronation anniversary of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi.
The brief but dramatic moment, captured in a viral video, occurred when Adeleke mounted the podium to pay homage to the monarch and congratulate the first lady on her newly conferred title, Yeye Asiwaju Gbogbo Ile Oodua.
Instead of proceeding immediately with his goodwill message, the governor—widely dubbed Nigeria’s “Dancing Governor” for his showman-style public appearances—broke into a musical chant, drawing laughter from sections of the audience.
Remi Tinubu, who had only moments earlier received her chieftaincy title, approached the podium and urged the governor to deliver his speech. “Go ahead,” she said quietly before returning to her seat.
However, as Adeleke continued with another round of singing, the first lady turned back and issued a firmer warning.
“Enough with the music, or I’ll switch off the microphone,” she said, adding that the governor had “five minutes to conclude” his remarks.
Her comment triggered laughter and murmurs across the hall, with guests visibly surprised by the exchange.
The video of the incident has since circulated widely on social media, generating mixed reactions.
While some Nigerians considered the exchange lighthearted, others viewed it as a public rebuke that highlighted expectations of decorum during traditional ceremonies.
Neither Governor Adeleke nor the office of the first lady has released an official statement beyond what was seen in the footage.
