The Ondo State Government has renewed its push to revitalise technical and vocational education, as the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa on Technical and Vocational Education, Hon. Tayo Oluyi, embarked on a comprehensive tour of five government-owned technical colleges across the state.

The assessment tour covered Government Technical Colleges in Owo, Okitipupa, Idanre, Oka-Akoko, and the Federal Science Technical College, Ikare-Akoko.

Speaking during the visits, Hon. Oluyi said Governor Aiyedatiwa remains unwavering in his commitment to reposition technical education as a foundation for workforce development, innovation and youth empowerment.

“Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa recognises the pivotal role of technical and vocational education in building a competitive, self-reliant workforce,” he said.

“We are here to listen, understand the realities on the ground, and ensure government intervention directly meets the needs of principals, teachers and students.”

He noted that ongoing renovation works in several colleges would receive fresh attention, assuring that the government will deliver modern, safe and conducive learning environments.

“Our students deserve inspiring facilities, and we are moving with renewed urgency to complete ongoing rehabilitation projects,” he added.

At the Government Technical College, Okitipupa, principal Omotola Faye commended the Governor’s renewed interest, describing it as a morale booster.

“We are grateful to Governor Aiyedatiwa for prioritising technical education. This visit reassures us that our challenges will be addressed,” he said.

Similarly, the principal of Government Technical College, Ile-Oluji/Oke-Igbo, praised the SSA’s engagement, noting that it reflects the administration’s commitment to strengthening technical education.

The tour allowed Hon. Oluyi to interact directly with students and staff, gaining firsthand insight into infrastructure deficits, curriculum gaps and opportunities for expanding skills acquisition programmes.

Stakeholders expressed optimism that the renewed focus on technical education will enhance teaching standards, improve skill development pathways and support the long-term economic growth of Ondo State.
