The Ondo State Government has declared a zero-tolerance stance against illegal banners, posters and unapproved advertisements across the state, describing the practice as a blatant defacement of public and private spaces.
In a press statement issued on Tuesday, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Signage and Advertisement, Mr. Yòmí Oyékàn, said Ondo State would no longer tolerate the indiscriminate pasting of posters and erection of banners without due authorization.
According to the statement, building owners who permit their walls, fences and complexes to be used for unauthorized advertisements are not only violating existing laws but are also complicit in degrading the visual appeal and dignity of the state.
“Ondo State is not a dumping ground for illegal advertisements. This growing disregard for due process is unacceptable and deeply disrespectful to our collective image,” the statement read.
Oyékàn stressed that no advertisement is permitted anywhere in the state without express approval from the Ondo State Signage and Advertisement Agency (OSSAA), warning that prominent areas such as The Akure Mall, Oja Oba, Arakale Market, Alagbaka, including the Bank of Industry building, have become hotspots for such infractions.
He added that government would no longer look away, noting that property owners who allow illegal postings would be treated as partners in the offence.
“With immediate effect, all illegal advertisements will be removed without notice. Both advertisers and building owners will face heavy fines and prosecution in accordance with the law,” he said.
The government explained that the enforcement drive is aimed at restoring order, protecting the aesthetic beauty of the state and reclaiming public spaces, declaring that the era of indiscriminate advertising in Ondo State is over.
