The Minister of Interior, Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has empowered widows and orphans in Okeagbe Akoko, Ondo State, with scholarships, cash grants and work tools as part of efforts to support vulnerable members of society.
The empowerment programme, held on Tuesday, saw several orphans awarded educational scholarships, while widows received financial support, industrial machines and other materials to help them start or expand small-scale businesses.
Represented at the event by Hon. Fafunmilade Adetilewa, Tunji-Ojo said the initiative was aimed at easing hardship among the less privileged and reaffirming government’s commitment to social welfare.
He urged citizens to remain prayerful and supportive of leaders at all levels.
“I urge us to always intercede on behalf of our state, the Sunshine State, and Nigeria at large. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu particularly needs our prayers and support,” he said.
The minister noted that President Tinubu had, within three years, made significant progress in advancing his Renewed Hope agenda, calling on Nigerians to continue supporting the administration and to express that support through active participation in the democratic process ahead of 2027.
Speaking at the event, the minister’s mother, Madam Yinka Tunji-Ojo, thanked the people for their consistent support for her son, assuring them that he would continue to prioritize grassroots development and the welfare of the less privileged.
Also speaking, the wife of the Olubaka of Oka Akoko, Oba (Dr.) Yusuf Adebori Adeleye, OON, encouraged residents to continue praying for the minister, saying such support would further strengthen his resolve to serve the people.
Dignitaries at the event included the Owa of Ogbagi Akoko, Oba Victor Adetona, and the Ajana of Afa, Okeagbe Akoko, Oba Mofolorunso Adegboyega Arasanyin.
Beneficiaries described the intervention as timely and life-changing, expressing gratitude for the scholarships and empowerment packages, which they said would significantly improve their livelihoods and educational prospects.
