Only Fasting, Prayers Can Save Fubara From Wike’s Wrath – Fayose

Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has waded into the escalating political crisis in Rivers State, declaring that only “fasting and prayers” can rescue Governor Siminalayi Fubara from the ongoing confrontation with the state House of Assembly.

Fayose, who spoke during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, on Friday, urged Fubara to reconcile with his predecessor and political benefactor, Nyesom Wike, currently the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.

According to him, the governor’s troubles stem largely from a breakdown of trust and alleged disregard for the peace agreement brokered in Abuja under the intervention of President Bola Tinubu.

“Many prayers would be said to save Fubara. So many fasts and prayers would be the only thing that would save Fubara in this one,” Fayose warned.

The Rivers Assembly, dominated by lawmakers loyal to Wike, has commenced impeachment proceedings against the governor over allegations of unauthorised spending and his failure to present the 2026 budget before the legislature.

Fayose insisted that Fubara was to blame for the current standoff, accusing him of reneging on terms agreed with Wike shortly after the Federal Government lifted the emergency rule in the state.

Recalling his presence at Fubara’s 2023 swearing-in, Fayose said he had cautioned the new governor against breaking ranks with the former Rivers helmsman.

“I told Wike I wanted to warn Fubara not to betray him. Wike said I should not say it, that Fubara could never do such. But I still told him, ‘My brother, lock all your windows. Stay with those who brought you in. Don’t look for Wike’s trouble’,” Fayose said.

The crisis continues to cast uncertainty over governance in Rivers State as political alignments shift ahead of the 2027 elections.
