The Ondo State chapter of Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON) Chairmen, on Saturday commended various proactive measures being taken by the state governor, Hon. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, to bring succour to the people of the state.

The body particularly applauded the governor for going round the streets in various communities of the state, to interact with the masses, regarding areas of need; especially in the wake of protests against economic hardship in the country.

In a joint statement by the Chairman of Ondo State ALGON chairmen, Hon Igbekele Akinrinwa; Secretary, Mohammed Olawale, and Public Relations Officer, Barrister Taiwo Kayode Samson, the body remarked that the move, coupled with the people’s resolve to engage in dialogue rather than take to protests, had lent credence to the fact that Aiyedatiwa is a committed leader.

Samson, who is Transition Committee Chairman for Akure East Local Council Development Area, quoted the council bosses as stating that “Governor Aiyedatiwa, since he took over the administration of the state since late December last year, has been on top of his beat, most especially in infrastructural projects, human empowerment, and welfare programmes”.

“We are particularly enthused with the way and manner Mr. Governor himself went round the streets of various communities to meet with the masses to hear out their grievances, with a view to finding urgent solution to them.

“Apart from that, the governor mingled freely with the people because that has been his practice all the while, as he prefers first-hand information on areas of need, to allow him know if the administration is on track,” Samson disclosed.

The council bosses, he added, particularly commended Governor Aiyedatiwa for clearing backlogs of salaries for all categories of workers, and for the regular payment of salaries and allowances.

“We are also impressed with the governor’s empowerment programmes for those in the non-formal sector by releasing over N2 billion as soft loans to artisans, farmers, petty traders, and young entrepreneurs.

“This is aside from the fact that he had mobilised all hitherto discouraged contractors handling road and other projects back to site, and also awarded various capital projects cutting across the 18 Local government areas and 33 LCDAs in the state.”

The council bosses, according to him, are also grateful to Governor Aiyedatiwa for raising a special committee on local government administration in the state, to ensure effective governance by leaders at the grassroots level.
