Ahead of the November 16 governorship Election in Ondo state, the national Orientation Agency, NOA, on Tuesday expressed its readiness to embark on voter education of the electorate.
The Ondo state Director of the NOA, Mr James Adekunle stated this while addressing Newsmen on the national anthem and the national Value Charter Awareness in Akure the state capital.
Mr Adekunle described voter education as crucial towards ensuring free and fair election in Ondo state.
He said, “As we approach the governorship election in the state, voter education is crucial.
“To ensure that we have a free, fair, credible, and acceptable Governorship election come 16th November, 2024, National Orientation Agency is committed to empowering citizens with the knowledge to make informed decisions and exercise their civic rights in a peaceful atmosphere towards shaping the future of our state.“
He also said the proposed unveiling of the National Value Charter as a blueprint for promoting core values that will develop the country and the citizens.
Mr Adekunle pointed out that the charter was a mutual commitment between the country and her people hence the need for government at all levels to fulfill its promises in return for the commitments from all Nigerians.
“Our nation is also set to unveil a National Values Charter, a blueprint for promoting core values that will guide our actions and decisions. Values are principles, beliefs, and ideologies shaping us as individual. The National identity project becomes highly important to redirect all Nigerians, irrespective of class, ethnicity, and religion, to the ideals and values for which we were traditionally known and used to build our societies and their institutions.
“This charter is a mutual commitment of the country and citizens to the national cause whereby Government at all levels must fulfill its basic non-negotiable promises in return for commitments from the citizens.
“The charter is embedded in the Nigerian Promise’ and the “Citizens Code’ which is a set of seven promises of the country to her eitizens and a set of seven obligations of the citizens to the country.
The Seven Nigerian Promise to the citizens are; Equality, Entrepreneurship and Employment, Peace and Security, Inclusivity, Freedom and Justice, Meritocracy.
“The Seven Nigerian citizen codes are: Discipline, Duty of care, Tolerance and Respect, Leadership, Transparency, Environmental awareness, Resilience.
Mr Adekunle also urged Nigerians to familiarize themselves with the correct lyrics of the new National anthem and embrace other national symbols of Nigeria’s Identity.
NOA coordinator also urged residents of ondo state to desist from acts that could lead to flooding in the state.
