Misguided Attack on Ondo Finance Commissioner: A Call For Reason

by Roving

Gentlemen of the Press,

It is deeply concerning that the public discourse surrounding the Ondo State 2025 Budget has been hijacked by individuals with ulterior motives.

What should have been an objective engagement on governance and fiscal policy has instead become a targeted smear campaign against the Honorable Commissioner for Finance, Hon. Omowumi Isaac.

As a group committed to transparency and accountability, we find it both curious and unacceptable that rather than directing their grievances to the appropriate channels—the Ondo State House of Assembly—certain individuals have chosen to launch baseless attacks on the Commissioner.

Setting the Record Straight

For clarity, the preparation of the state budget follows a structured process. Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) prepare their budget proposals, which are then collated by the Ministry of Budget and Planning before being submitted to the House of Assembly for legislative scrutiny and approval.

The Commissioner for Finance neither compiles nor signs the budget into law. His role is strictly in managing state finances based on the approved budget, not in drafting or approving it.

It is, therefore, misplaced and illogical to make the Commissioner a scapegoat for issues concerning the 2025 Budget.

Those genuinely concerned about any irregularities should direct their questions to the proper quarters rather than resort to cheap blackmail and media propaganda.

The Real Motive Behind the Attacks

The orchestrated attack on the Hon. Commissioner for Finance is not about accountability or good governance—it is about power and control. Certain disgruntled political elements, both within and outside the ruling party, are threatened by the Commissioner’s commitment to blocking financial leakages and ensuring fiscal discipline.

These individuals, accustomed to exploiting state resources, have found themselves frustrated by a public servant who prioritizes the state’s financial health over personal enrichment.

We will not stand idly by while a diligent and competent public servant is unfairly vilified.

A Call for Responsible Engagement

We urge well-meaning citizens of Ondo State to see beyond this orchestrated distraction.

The Hon. Commissioner for Finance has remained committed to her duties with integrity and professionalism. Instead of indulging in baseless attacks, those with genuine concerns should follow proper democratic procedures and engage with the legislative arm of government.

To those behind this smear campaign, we issue this strong warning:

Stop the unjustified and politically motivated attacks against Hon. Omowumi Isaac.

Desist from using gender bias as a tool for political intimidation.

Allow Governor Lucky Orimisan Ayedatiwa to focus on delivering good governance to the people of Ondo State.

Governor Ayedatiwa’s patience and openness to dialogue should not be mistaken for weakness. Ondo State belongs to the people, and no amount of media propaganda will derail its progress.

Thank you.
