Aiyedatiwa Approves N350m Scholarship, Bursary for Students

by Roving

The Governor of Ondo State, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has approved the sum of ₦350 million for the payment of the 2025 scholarship and bursary scheme for indigenes of the state in tertiary institutions across Nigeria.

The funds will cover five categories of scholarship, including medical and law students, as well as students living with disabilities.

According to the approval, about 12,000 students will benefit from the scheme this year — an improvement on the ₦335m disbursed to 11,200 students in 2024.

Governor Aiyedatiwa had previously increased the annual bursary allowance from ₦10,000 to ₦20,000, while students with disabilities received ₦75,000 each, and scholarship awardees received ₦100,000 each.

Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to education, the governor described it as the “cornerstone of development” and a key tool for unlocking the potential of young people.

“Many of our students face significant financial challenges in pursuing their academic dreams. That is why we introduced bursary and scholarship awards to alleviate these burdens and enable them to focus on their studies. These awards are a testament to our commitment to investing in the future of our state and our country,” Aiyedatiwa said.

The approval comes barely two weeks after the Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (OSOPADEC) began disbursing its 2023/2024 scholarship and bursary scheme to 4,837 indigent students from oil-producing areas of the state.

With the latest approval, the Aiyedatiwa administration continues to prioritize education, ensuring that indigent students are supported in their pursuit of academic excellence.
