The Progressive Youth Forum (PYF) in Owo has strongly condemned what it described as the growing culture of disrespect and division within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Owo Local Government, urging party leaders to restore discipline and unity before it threatens the party’s stability.
In a statement signed by the group on Sunday, the PYF expressed deep concern over the “reckless conduct and unguarded utterances” of certain political actors in the area, particularly taking a swipe at the Owo APC Publicity Secretary, Dr. Idowu Ojo.
According to the statement, Dr. Ojo’s recent “appreciation message,” which listed political appointees before the Deputy Governor of Ondo State, an indigene of Owo, was “a deliberate act of disrespect” and “a calculated attempt to sow discord within the ranks of the party.”
“This is not an error; it is an insult,” the group stated. “It represents everything wrong with our politics today — sycophancy elevated over substance, patronage worshipped over principle, and personal interest placed above communal progress.”
The forum emphasized that Owo youths would not stand by while “political jobbers trade the town’s unity for crumbs of temporary favour,” adding that loyalty to political benefactors must not come at the expense of communal harmony.
“The Deputy Governor, by virtue of his office, deserves the full respect and loyalty of every member of the party in Owo,” the group maintained. “Any attempt to ridicule or undermine that office is an affront to Owo’s collective dignity.”
The PYF called on the leadership of the APC in Ondo State to urgently intervene to restore order and sanity within the Owo chapter of the party.
“Owo has always been known for political sophistication, not servitude,” the statement read. “We cannot allow the legacy of men like Pa Ajasin and Akeredolu to be tainted by opportunists seeking validation through mischief.”
The group concluded by calling for a return to decency, dialogue, and unity, stressing that “Owo is greater than any individual” and warning that “history will not be kind to those who trade her peace for personal ambition.”
