Preparations are in top gear for the Ariya Eko Music Festival 2025, billed for Sunday, October 5, at the prestigious Shell Hall, Muson Center, Lagos.

This year’s edition promises to be a historic gathering as Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu leads the state in honouring some of Nigeria’s most revered cultural and musical icons.

The festival, organized by Evergreen Musical Company Ltd in partnership with the Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, is dedicated to recognizing outstanding personalities whose works have shaped the nation’s music, film, and cultural heritage.

Among the distinguished honourees are Chief Commander Ebenezer Obey (84), King Jossy Friday (85), General Kollington Ayinla (72), Elder Tunde Kelani (77), Evangelist J.A. Adelakun (Amona), Gharikowu’ Lemi (69), Ola Balogun (80), Pa Ajobiewe (69), Sir Emma Ogosi (85), Evangelist Dr Funmi Aragbaiye (70), Tee Mac Omatshola Iseli (77), Admiral Dele Abiodun (77), Laolu Akins (78), Stella Monye (69), Dr. Mrs. D.A. Fasoyin (85), and Uncle Toye Ajagun (80).

Themed around celebrating legends in their lifetime, the event will spotlight veterans largely over 65 years of age, whose talents defined genres such as Juju, Fuji, Highlife, Gospel, Waka, Sakara, and indigenous storytelling.

A special highlight of the night will be the “Do You Remember Segment”, where younger musicians will revive the timeless classics of these icons, recreating their artistry as it was in their prime.

Speaking on the event, Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mrs. Toke Benson-Awoyinka, said Ariya Eko reinforces Lagos’ position as a custodian of African cultural heritage.

Since assuming office, Governor Sanwo-Olu has earned a reputation as a listening leader committed to preserving Lagos’ history.

By spearheading Ariya Eko 2025, he is once again showcasing his respect for creativity and ensuring Nigeria’s cultural pathfinders receive due honour while alive.
