Nigerian actress and comedienne, Princess Damilola, has warned members of the public—particularly parents, schools, landlords and child-care institutions—to remain vigilant following the release of Nollywood actor, Olanrewaju James, popularly known as Baba Ijesha, who recently completed his jail term.
In a video posted on her Facebook page on Saturday, Princess clarified that Baba Ijesha was neither acquitted nor discharged by any court, insisting that his release was strictly because he had served the prison term imposed on him.
She explained that the actor was sentenced on July 14, 2022, to several counts of offenses, totaling 16 years, but ordered to serve the terms concurrently, making his effective jail time five years, based on the longest single count.
Princess further noted that the prison system operates on an eight-month-per-year calendar, which she said accounted for the duration already spent by the actor in custody. According to her, “By November 2025, he had completed the full term mandated by the court.”
She said her public explanation was necessary to correct misinformation spreading online about the circumstances of his release.
Princess then issued a strong warning to the public, urging schools, landlords, hotels, and communities to be cautious.
“Everyone needs to be aware. Now that he is out, schools that see him around their premises know what to do. Landlords too,” she said, adding that her message was for “sensible Nigerians who believe in protecting children and preventing sexual assault.”
She stated that her video was intended to guide parents and guardians, stressing that child safety must remain a priority.
Princess also addressed some online reactions celebrating the actor’s release, saying:
“There is no basis for thinking he was vindicated. He served the full sentence handed down by the court.”
She concluded by urging Nigerians not to dismiss warning signs and to prioritise the safety of minors.
